Frequently asked questions

Pricing during launch, how fresh the data is, why a business might be missing, coverage beyond Calgary, and how to have your information corrected or removed.

Cost and access

What does it cost?

Nothing right now. Alerts, contact details, CSV export and MCP access are free while we are launching, and no card is asked for anywhere on the site. That is a launch decision, not a permanent one — paid plans are coming, and we will say so on the site before anything you use today starts costing money.

Do I need an account?

No. There is no signup, no password and no profile. Contact details and exports ask for an email address once, which also subscribes you to the weekly digest; you can unsubscribe from any email.

How do I get an API key for the MCP server?

Ask us. Keys are issued by hand during the launch period, which also means we can revoke and replace one in a minute if it leaks. Setup is on connect Claude.

The data

How fresh is it?

The city’s open data is imported once a day, early each morning Calgary time, and signals are regenerated in the same run. The footer of every page shows when the last global update finished. Contact enrichment runs in the same pass but is capped per run, so a business licensed yesterday may gain its phone number a few days later.

Why is a business I know about missing?

Usually one of four reasons, in rough order of likelihood:

  • its licence has not appeared in the City’s published extract yet — there is a lag between a licence being issued and being published;
  • it is filtered out of the view you were looking at: numbered companies and chain locations are hidden by default on the lead lists, and every list has a look-back window;
  • it is licensed under a legal name that does not match the sign on the door — try searching by name rather than browsing;
  • it does not need a Calgary business licence, or is not in Calgary.

Do you cover cities other than Calgary?

Not yet. Calgary is the only city in the data, and nothing on the site, in an export or in an API answer implies otherwise. The pipeline was built to take more cities; adding one is a question of demand, not of rewriting the product.

Why does a business have no phone number or email?

Because we did not find one in public sources — not because it is being withheld. About half of recently licensed businesses have a contact detail attached today, and the ones that do not are mostly businesses with no web presence at all. The card tells you which state it is in, including when we have stopped looking. More on contact data.

A business on here has closed. Why is it still listed as active?

Closure detection is built but is not switched on in production yet, so the site does not currently report closures. Treat “active” as “the licence record has not lapsed in the data we have”, and tell us about a closure you know of — we will correct it.

Corrections, removal and responsible use

Something about my business is wrong. How do I fix it?

Use the Report incorrect info form under the Contact card on that business’s profile. Say what is wrong and what it should be; a person reads every report and nothing on the page changes automatically. You can leave an email if you want to hear back, and it is optional.

I want my business removed from CityRadar.

Write to privacy@cityradar.io from an address connected to the business, and say whether you want a specific detail removed (a phone number, an email) or the whole profile. We will review it promptly. The licence record itself is public data published by the City of Calgary, and removing it here does not remove it there.

Can I email the contacts I find here?

That is between you and the law that applies to you. The values here are business contact details the business published publicly, and each one carries the source and the date we fetched it — which is the record you would want if a recipient ever asked where you got their address. Meeting CASL’s consent, identification and unsubscribe requirements is your responsibility; CityRadar does not send outreach for you.

Can I resell or redistribute the data?

The underlying city records are open data with their own terms; what you may do with the product built on top of them is set out in our terms. If you have a commercial use in mind that they do not obviously cover, ask us rather than guessing.
